Pianist, composer and improviser, Cesare Picco brings to the stage a sound that transforms listening into an experience. For more than thirty years, he has performed in some of the world’s most prestigious theatres and museums: Teatro alla Scala, the Guggenheim in Venice, the Whitney Museum in New York, the Hara Museum in Tokyo, and the Baghdad National Theatre. He has performed at festivals such as Delhi Jazz, Tokyo Jazz, Abu Dhabi Festival, Umbria Jazz and Piano City Milano. He has composed for the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra and the Berlin Chamber Soloists. He is a Yamaha Artist.

His is a sound that leans forward, into a space where it can either take flight or fall. A precision of touch that draws unexpected resonances from the instrument, a spontaneity that never relinquishes control. The ability to create meaning through the smallest inflections of phrasing, to inhabit the silences between notes with the same intention with which he inhabits the notes themselves.

The paradox of art: a boundary that contains the limitless. Transformation occurs when the accumulation of small differences crosses an invisible threshold and becomes something else. Not evolution, but a leap. Cesare Picco has made that boundary his territory, that leap his language.

Cesare Picco transforms the listening space into a different kind of experience, spiritual and sensory at the same time: in light as well as in its absence. This force manifests itself with equal intensity in the live performances of his albums and in the format he created in 2009: music in absolute darkness (indarkness.world). Not near-darkness, not twilight: the total absence of light, where sound becomes the only point of orientation. From the sold-out performance at Milan’s Teatro Smeraldo in 2009 to more than one hundred concerts in major theatres across Italy and around the world.

His latest albums, The Last Gate (2021) and Sky Tales (2023), were released by Decca Records and testify to the maturity of an artist who has found a voice unmistakably his own. His new album is currently in the works, with release scheduled for 2026.
